We're Doomed Again!

February 2026

Well Friday the 13 was a rainy drizzly horrible day. The birders left McDonald’s more driven by hope than being convinced we’d see anything.

So setting off to the lagoons via the field near the new estate we were most chuffed to see a group of Long Tail Tits in the trees just as we walked onto the path by the dyke.

A few other small birds were out n about but we were nearly all defeated by the grim weather. Paul having his full kit of waterproofs on trudged onto the lagoons n the rest of us headed home! Squirrels a couple of ducks n a wren were his reward

Contrast today (25/2) some sun and a cool wind but relatively warm and the birds on the field near the new estate were out in force!

The Wrens and Cetti’s Warbler were in competition to see who could call the loudest. There were Blue and Great Tits, Blackbirds, Starlings, Chaffinch, Dunnocks, Sparrows, Goldfinches pied Wagtails, Robin’s.

The Chiff Chaff was chiff chaffing away, the peeps of the Reed Buntings nearly being drowned out by the noisier birds. All in the space of about 200 yards of hedge. Just delightful! I only wish I could have shared it with the group who could use a good days birding.

We’ll have to see if we have better luck in March and April.  The pic shows a Sparrow in full on cheep-cheep mode in the sunshine 🌞
