We have 3 French groups; this French For Fun group and the more advanced French Conversation group meet on alternate Mondays at Mapperley Golf Club.
The French 3 beginners group meets on alternate Wednesdays at St. George's Centre..
We speak in French and also sometimes prepare a topic to share and discuss. We learn from one another the we progress at a leisurely pace in this very sociable, friendly and supportive Group.

November 2025
The French for Fun and French Conversation groups, which are now ten years old, got together again for their 8th annual soirée at Mapperley Golf Club. Forty eight members and guests gathered for a splendid evening, which started with a sparkling wine and assorted canopies reception, followed by a choice of fine French themed meals, with this year`s Nouveau Beaujolais wine readily available.
The venue was splendidly decorated with French bunting and tricolours, and the six tables were presented to perfection with each named after a French river, and the place settings had a coloured table mat showing the Chamonix ski areas.
There was a table quiz and an array of great raffle prizes, and as always it was a magnificent evening with everyone having a smashing time. The French groups certainly know how to enjoy themselves.

The day after Beaujolais release day, we held our seventh annual buffet, when 50 members, partners and friends enjoyed the most delightful seven course dinner, with quiz prizes, a generous raffle, and friends socialising together. We’re planning for 2025 already!

The two French Groups enjoyed a Soirée Française at Mapperley Golf Club with a French Quiz, Raffle and the most magnificent French-themed gourmet evening. Enjoying Saumur, Beaujolais Nouveau..to name just two.
Learning does really involve laughter, support, convivialité and sociability. Vive l' Université du Troisième Âge!
