The Book Club is made up of friendly people who enjoy reading and discussing a wide variety of books.
We usually meet on the first Tuesday of the month at Carlton Fire Station to discuss a book read by the group during the previous month.
Every third month or so we have either Readers' Choices where everyone brings in a book they have read and they introduce it briefly or we explore an agreed genre or writer.

The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri
February 2026: This is the second book by Lefteri, a university teacher of creative writing. She based it partly on her experience working as a volunteer for at a UNICEF supported refugee centre in Athens. It follows a family from war torn Syria, through the eyes of Nuri (the husband) who is a beekeeper. They are reluctant to leave Aleppo until their young son is killed, his wife loses her sight and his bees are destroyed. They finally set out to find his cousin and fellow beekeeper in England. The Women by Kristin Hannah
Book Club: January 2026 Born in 1960, Kristin Hannah is the American author of 15 books, with a frequent central theme of ordinary women in challenging circumstances.
