These are local trails researched by members of the Carlton & Gedling u3a Local History group in 2013 and 2014:
Carlton Trail
The Carlton Trail is a walk through Carlton, starting at the Local History Group's original base (Carlton Library) before exploring some of the old buildings along Station Road and Carlton Hill.
Gedling Trail
A booklet called The Gedling Village Trail was produced by the pupils of Priory Road Junior School c.1982. It described a circular walk round the village with grainy black and white photos and gave historical detail about points of interest on the route.
The Local History Group re-visited the Gedling Village Trail prior to the building of the new Gedling Access Road (Colliery Way), bringing the original details up to date and adding colour photographs.
Netherfield Trail
The Netherfield Trail starts at the level crossing before heading down Victoria Road towards the Victoria Retail Park, with the odd detour here and there.
Lace Market Trail
The Lace Market is a historic quarter-mile square area of Nottingham. It was the centre of the World's lace industry during the British Empire and is now a protected heritage area. Click Lace Market Trail for more about the Lace Market and a brief history of Nottingham up until about 1900.
Watson Fothergill Trail
The Watson Fothergill Trail visits some of the works of the renowned architect who designed over 100 unique buildings in the Nottingham area.
Castle Quarter Trail
The Castle Quarter Trail focuses on the 3 R’s - not the ones we remember from schooldays but: Royalty, Religion & Radicalism. The power struggles between these three fluctuated in importance over the centuries in Nottingham and this area proved to be a battleground in more ways than one.
