Bird Watching: April 2026
What a fantastic day out at Rutland Water. The sun shone, the birds were in fine voice and the Ospreys could be seen soaring above us in the clear blue sky. Magic!!
Not too many water birds but after some of the awful days where we couldn’t venture out it counted as one of our better birding outings! Mind you I’ve only to see some long tail tits and I’m made up - we had the additional pleasure of spotting Coal Tits which are far from common.
Paul and John took some great snaps of the birdies - indeed John used his pics to identify a Shelducks that was just too far away for us to have a clear view! Ain’t technology great!
We saw and heard 30 different species though no sight or sound of the Bitterns which we heard on our last visit. The awe factor went to the Egyptian Geese with their goslings a first for babies this season. Good job the weather has improved so they can feed themselves up.
