General Meeting: August 2026
Carol Brooks has worked for All 4 Burma for a number of years following a career in the TA and later as a library manager. Burma also known as Myanmar is divided into several states and Carol was based in Karen. The charity though Christian meets the needs of many ethnic groups and religions in the region.
There has been a civil war since 1949 and in 2021 a military coup in which 4000 villages were destroyed and millions of families , orphans and wounded soldiers live in makeshift homes in refugee camps in desperate poverty and enclosed with barbed wire. Carol had many pictures of the people of Karen whom she describes as warm, friendly and resilient and the children’s smiling faces bear this out. They seem to carry on despite mud from heavy rainfall ,the absence of proper roads, waterborne diseases and land mines helping each other and getting aid in. School takes place outside in between drone attacks .
This small charity with no admin costs works on Mother Teresa’s maxim that if you can’t help everyone , just help one or two and try and do a bit .
Carol’s talk and her pictures was heart-warming and was very well received. She has thanked us for the support she received and the generosity of our members who raised £215.
